BIRMINGHAM, ALA. — We need leadership. It is not enough to encourage and applaud when some schools in Alabama end the forced masking of our children but permit other schools to continue forced masking without penalty. Forced masking instills a spirit of fear in our children and stunts their educational growth. Masking a child should be a parent’s choice and a parent’s choice alone.
We must not play politics with our children or shrink back from making the right policies that affect them. Some children in our state who are in kindergarten, first and second grade have never been to school without being forced by the school to wear a mask. This decision should be made by the parents only. It is an infringement on our rights for any local, state, or federal government institution to subvert parental rights by making a healthcare decision of any kind for our children as American citizens.
I call on Governor Kay Ivey to issue an executive order TODAY to end forced masking of our children at every educational level in Alabama.
